Chargers vs. Texans score, live updates: Wildcard weekend begins with Los Angeles meeting Houston

The 2024-25 NFL playoffs are here and the festivities begin in Houston, where the 10-7 AFC South champion Texans host the 11-6 wildcard Los Angeles Chargers. This is a familiar situation for the Texans – aside from what appears to be a regular Wild Card TV slot on Saturday afternoons – as they were in the same spot last year when they opened the playoffs at home. Last January, Houston beat the Cleveland Browns 45-14 in CJ Stroud’s first playoff game, and he was solid, throwing for 267 yards with three touchdown passes.

Justin Herbert has only made one playoff start in his career, and it’s one that Chargers fans would like to forget. LA last appeared in the playoffs in January 2023, when it blew a 27-7 third-quarter lead against the Jacksonville Jaguars and lost 31-30 on a last-second field goal. This time, however, the Chargers’ defense may be better suited for an away challenge – the unit led the league in allowing just 17.7 points per game this season, and the Chargers didn’t allow any of their nine away opponents more than 20 points on the clock own home place.
