Class of 2025 quarterback prospect Chase Herbstreit, the son of ESPN analyst and former Ohio State quarterback Kirk Herbstreit, has decided not to follow in his father’s footsteps.

The young signal-caller told On3.com’s Hayes Fawcett on Sunday that he chose Ohio State’s biggest rival, Michigan.

Chase Herbstreit is rated as a 3-star prospect and the No. 128 quarterback in the 2025 class by On3.com, but he is not ranked on 247Sports’ list.

During his senior year at Cincinnati St.

On3.com director of scouting and rankings Charles Power suggested in his evaluation of Herbstreit that he could have a bright future and outperform his recruiting rankings.

“The 6-foot-1, 190-pound player appears to have a good handle on the professional offensive system and is comfortable working from down the middle. “He has extra arm strength and shows good speed on intermediate passes,” Power explained in October. “We’ve also seen Herbstreit become more of a running threat as a senior. He effectively avoids pass rushers and is more than capable of racking up long yardage as a scrambler and on designed runs. The level of improvement and overall competitiveness. The nature that Herbstreit is showing makes us feel like he will make the most of his talent.”

Of course, Kirk Herbstreit remains a diehard Ohio State supporter, having attended the university from 1989 to 1993 and starting quarterback for the Buckeyes as a senior. So it will be fun to see where he takes his loyalties now that his son will be spending his college career at Michigan.
