Chelsea made seven changes but lost little of their momentum as Southampton were brushed aside on Wednesday night.

Axel Disasi got the ball rolling, Christopher Nkunku, Noni Madueke, Cole Palmer and Jadon Sancho completed the defeat, while Saints captain Jack Stephens was sent off in the first half for pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair at a corner .

Chelsea cut the gap to Liverpool to seven points but didn’t tell Enzo Maresca the Blues were in the title race.

Here’s how Enzo Maresca’s team performed at St. Mary’s…

Filip Jorgensen 7

Gave him a Premier League debut and a chance to put pressure on Robert Sanchez. No chance for the goal. He was good on the ball and made brilliant saves with his feet to deny Fernandes making it 3-2.

Malo Gusto 7

He was back in action at right-back, but Southampton had a lot of joy on his side in the early exchanges. I got an assist late on with a pass to Sancho.

Axel Disasi 6

Opened the scoring with a header just off the post. The distribution was a bit patchy at the beginning, but has become well established and is easy to read.

Tosin Adarabioyo 6

Another who fended off a few low balls in his own six-yard box. Hit the crossbar with a looping header and then hit the post with a powerful strike.

Marc Cucurella 6

I saw Southampton captain Jack Stephens sent off for pulling his hair.

Moises Caicedo 7

Had a pretty busy day picking his moments to press while Southampton languished defensively.

Enzo Fernandez 7

Another assist for the Argentine, whose corner helped Disasi take the lead.

Noni Madueke 7

Good reaction to the loss against Aston Villa. Good pressure to win the ball and then set up Nkunku’s goal before cleverly scoring the third. Should have added at least one more though.

Cole Palmer 7

I couldn’t believe he hadn’t gotten the better of ten players, but was finally alert when Nkunku’s tackle turned into an assist.

Joao Felix 6

A delicious change of play gave Palmer a chance. Has a strange habit of delaying his shots to the near post.

Christopher Nkunku8

First Premier League start since opening day and scored his 12th goal of the season. To be fair, I couldn’t miss it. Was also involved in Palmer’s goal.

Substitute

Jadon Sancho (Madueke 72′) 7

Powerful finish for the fifth.

Renato Veiga (Cucurella 79′) N/A

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (Palmer 79′) N/A
