Christmas shooting at Sky Harbor Airport: 2 people shot and 1 person stabbed

Sky Harbor International Airport was the scene of violence and riots on Christmas night.

According to police, three people were shot and another was stabbed in a family dispute that escalated.

It was a frightening moment for travelers on their Christmas Eve, but airport operations have returned to normal.

According to Phoenix police, around 9:45 a.m. on December 25, a family dispute broke out between five people at an airport restaurant in Terminal 4, leaving two men and a woman injured.

The woman’s injuries are described as life-threatening and the two men are expected to survive.

A man and a girl were arrested following the incident, but no charges were filed.

“All five people involved in this incident are known to each other. Apart from this group of people, no community members or visitors were injured. You haven’t checked the TSA yet. I don’t recommend bringing weapons to an airport,” Sergeant said. Mayra Reeson. “I do believe it was a family dispute that escalated.”

After the shooting, the man and an underage girl were held in an airport parking garage.

“The man was taken to hospital with at least one cut/stab wound. He is reported to be in stable condition,” Reeson said.

All weapons were seized by the police. When this all happened, airport operations at the Terminal 4 security checkpoint were temporarily closed, as was the Phoenix Sky Train. It was paused as a precaution.

“No suspects are being sought, airport operations are back to normal,” Phoenix police said on Twitter.

The shelter-in-place order was lifted around 10:30 p.m. MST and airport officials said operations had returned to normal.

Terminal 4 is the airport’s main hub for Southwest Airlines and American Airlines.

“Of course it was scary, it was Christmas Eve, everyone is trying to get home,” Reeson said.

Another Sky Harbor incident

Then, in an incident that police say was unrelated, 21-year-old Cole Nenon arrived at the airport with multiple weapons.

Police said Nenon handed them over to other people and walked toward police, screaming uncontrollably.

An officer tried to verbally tell him to stop, and then a fight ensued in which police say Nenon spit on the officer and punched him.

According to police, three weapons were confiscated and Nenon was charged with aggravated assault.
