Deamonte “Yak Gotti” Kendrick, one of the remaining co-defendants in the ongoing YSL gang trial, was stabbed to death in the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, according to his attorney, Douglas Weinstein.

Weinstein confirmed the attack on Monday morning, December 2, in posts on “Although he sounded tired, I expect him to make a full recovery,” Weinstein wrote on X.

Weinstein admitted he didn’t know the full extent of Kendrick’s condition or injuries, but said he expects to learn more when Kendrick appears in court today. “I don’t know the results of what happened in the hospital,” he said on TikTok. “It is very, very difficult – almost impossible – to get information from the hospital about these things. The trip to the hospital makes no difference.”

According to local CBS affiliate Atlanta News First, a spokesperson for the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office said, “Kendrick was treated at the Fulton County Jail for minor injuries from a sharp object. The incident occurred at the South Annex in Union City, where both men were staying. Kendrick will be in court today. This is an active investigation to identify the perpetrator of this incident and determine whether charges will be pending.”

The stabbing comes as Kendrick and Shannon Stillwell – the last remaining defendants in the current YSL gang trial – await a jury verdict. Deliberations began last week and both are charged with murder, gang violence and racketeering as part of the broad YSL indictment. (They have pleaded not guilty.)

In 2022, Kendrick was involved in a fight with another unidentified inmate who reportedly tried to stab him with a homemade knife. Stillwell was also stabbed during a prison brawl in late 2023, leading to one of the many delays that have complicated the YSL trial, which has become the longest criminal trial in Georgia’s history.

The original indictment for violating the RICO Act, first filed in 2022, charged a total of 28 defendants – including Young Thug and Gunna, who were tried separately. In October, Young Thug was finally released from prison after pleading his case; He was sentenced to prison, 15 years probation and a consecutive term of 20 years, which only occurs if he violates the terms of his probation.
