Coastal Carolina vs UTSA predictions and odds

Add the 2024 Myrtle Beach Bowl to the list of college football bowl games affected by this month’s opening of the transfer portal.

Two teams with a 6-6 record meet on Monday when Coastal Carolina takes on Texas-San Antonio at its home stadium, and yet despite the familiar surroundings, the Chanticleers are decided underdogs.

Since the end of the regular season, Coastal Carolina has had at least 25 players enter the transfer portal, including starting quarterback Ethan Vasco and his backup Noah Kim. The Chanticleers will be forced to turn to redshirt freshman Tad Hudson or freshman Alex Walker, neither of whom have appeared under center in a college game before.

“They’re not running a program anymore,” Coastal Carolina coach Tim Beck told reporters last week when discussing the situation. “This is not a program. Every year you just build a team. You try to find the best team you can field every year, and you know that team is going to get hit in free agency.”

UTSA’s roster, meanwhile, appears to be largely intact and the Roadrunners put in a strong performance toward the end of the regular season, qualifying for the bowl for the fifth straight year under coach Jeff Traylor. Quarterback Owen McCown, a Colorado transfer and son of former NFL quarterback Josh McCown, leads an offense that has averaged nearly 42 points over the last six games.
