Coastal Flood Warning – NBC Bay Area

According to the National Weather Service, rainfall occurred in the Bay Area on Thursday night and is expected to continue into next week, with the heaviest rainfall expected on Friday and Saturday.

A coastal flood warning is in effect for San Francisco County, the bay shoreline and the inner valleys of the North Bay until 1 p.m. Monday. According to the weather service, a high surf warning is in effect for San Francisco and the coastal areas of the peninsula from 1 p.m. Thursday to 4 a.m. Friday.

This week’s storm will bring the region’s first rain since before Thanksgiving.

Rain timeline

The wet weather will begin in the North Bay and continue overnight.

A stronger system is expected to arrive Friday through Saturday, bringing up to 3 inches of rain and wind gusts of up to 40-50 mph at higher elevations and along the coast, weather officials said.

According to the weather service, the rain is expected to ease on Sunday, but wet weather is expected again on Monday.

The coastal flood warning begins on Thursday

The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood warning for San Francisco and San Pablo Bays from 6 a.m. Thursday to 1 p.m. Monday.

Here is a breakdown of the NWS recommendation:

  • Tidal levels are rising due to higher astronomical tides.
  • Low-lying areas in the San Francisco Bay Area may experience minor flooding during high tide.
  • The highest tide in San Francisco is expected to be 6.74 feet at 8:12 a.m. Thursday, 6.98 feet at 8:54 a.m. on Friday, 7.07 feet at 9:37 a.m. on Saturday, and 10:22 a.m. on Sunday 7.02 feet and 6.82 feet at 11 a.m.: 8 a.m. Monday.

High surf advice

A high surf warning has been issued for all Pacific Coast beaches except the Santa Cruz coast, according to the National Weather Service.

The high surf warning is in effect from 1 p.m. Thursday to 4 a.m. Friday.

“This is just the beginning of dangerous conditions expected over the next week,” the Bay Area office of the National Weather Service said on social media. “Please use extreme caution while on the water and on the beach.”
