Cold start to the week, impact weather is expected on Tuesday

HAPPY MONDAY MORNING. It’s cold out there this morning. It’s hard to tell from this view from Annapolis, but the clouds have cleared since this weekend. AND THE TEMPERATURES IN MANY PLACES SAY THAT THEY ARE BACK IN THE TEENS. So I woke up to another very cold and chilly start to the day. Of course, the wind makes it feel even colder out there. I don’t expect it to be breezy. NO GUSTS OVER 20 OR 30 MPH. NOTHING SO SUCH, BUT EVEN A FIVE MILE PER HOUR WIND CAN MAKE IT FEEL MUCH COLDER OUTSIDE. I also want to talk real quick about the possible weather influences on your Tuesday. So if you hold off and leave to travel until tomorrow morning, Christmas Eve, you may encounter difficult travel as we begin the early part of the day with a winter weather advisory starting at 5 a.m. and continuing until at least 1 p.m takes Well, I don’t REALLY expect this ALL THE TIME, BUT THIS SYSTEM WILL COME IN. That could bring a wintry mix, maybe some freezing rain, maybe some sleet and even a few snowflakes. Wouldn’t be surprised if we saw that. The pink you see here is just a prediction of ice accumulation throughout our area. SO THERE IS THE POTENTIAL. SOME ICE MAY COLLECT ON AT LEAST SOME RAISED, UNTREATED SURFACES. So if you leave your car overnight and then don’t leave until around 8 or 9 a.m. tomorrow morning, the surface temperature will still be near freezing. So this means that anything that falls could actually stick to the car. And you may need to break out that ice scraper before you head out the door. Of course, accumulation still looks pretty low at the moment. We’re talking less than a tenth of an inch here. So if we were talking about something higher, that would cause a lot of concern when it comes to sagging trees, power lines, etc. I don’t expect that to be the case, but certainly a little glaze out there could make for some slippery driving. EARLY TUESDAY MORNING. And then it should dry out most of the time as we approach the afternoon. Let us WALK YOU THROUGH OUR FUTURECAST MODEL. An updated look at this should be in order today. NO PROBLEMS WITH THE WEATHER. Cloud cover will increase throughout the afternoon and evening. Now the next system is coming from the north and west. This is Tuesday, 6 a.m. THIS WINTER MIX COULD HAVE BEEN EXPECTED TO START IN HAGERSTOWN, WESTMINSTER AND THEN GRADUALLY STAY TO THE SOUTH AND EAST AS WE DRIVE THROUGH ABOUT MID TO LATE MORNING, 9 AM WHEN LOTS OF PEOPLE ARE ON THE ROAD. At this point, our surface temperature may be below freezing, but there could be a very thin layer of warmer air above that surface that will melt any snowflakes higher up. And once it reaches that temperature, the surface that freezes, it freezes again when touched. WE SET THE CLOCK FURTHER INTO THE AFTERNOON. And what you’re seeing here is the majority of that precipitation eventually dissipating and temperatures warming to over 30°C to around 40°C. So that means any ice cream we get will probably melt in the afternoon. BUT CERTAINLY SOMETHING TO WATCH OUT EARLY MORNING WHEN YOU GO ON THE ROAD. AND THEN, O
