Cold warnings from New Mexico to Florida, another winter storm expected

The snow and ice that fell during the winter isn’t expected to go away for days as temperatures remain at or below freezing for many and four states may face another storm soon.

Cold warnings and freeze warnings are issued from New Mexico to Florida. Wind chills will be near 20 degrees south to the Gulf Coast and top 30 degrees in Florida.

The major winter storm that brought heavy snow and ice from Kansas to New Jersey is over. 7.1 inches of snow fell in Washington, DC, making it the largest snowstorm since 2019. And about 10.6 inches of snow fell in Cincinnati, Ohio, making it the largest snowstorm since 2016.

The cool weather will continue across most of the East through Friday. The cold air locally is creating perfect conditions for a new winter storm.

A winter storm warning has already been issued for four states: Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Lousiana, where snow and sleet could lead to treacherous road conditions.

Ice and snow is expected to begin in Texas and Oklahoma early Thursday morning and continue throughout the day. Dallas, Texas; Shreveport, Louisiana; and Little Rock, Arkansas, are just a few cities where this winter storm will hit Thursday morning into Friday morning.

By Friday, snow will move into Tennessee, hitting both Memphis and Nashville, with ice possible in northern Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia.

Snow will move back into the Mid-Atlantic and I-95 corridors Friday night into Saturday. At this point, it is too early to tell how much snow will fall on the I-95 corridor, but a few inches is possible, particularly from Washing to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
