College Football Playoff Prediction: Updated 12-team CFP bracket prediction

After 14 game weeks, Championship Week is here. This is what the final means College Football Playoffs The rankings will be announced on Sunday – and the final rankings will be determined.

As teams compete for conference championships, spots in the 12-team CFP are at stake. The first bids were secured on Friday evening Boise State defeated UNLV in the Mountain West Championship. As the highest-placed Group of 5 champions, the Broncos now receive a spot in the field.

The rest of the College Football Playoff picture will come into focus on Saturday. The ACC, Big 12, Big Ten and SEC championship games take place throughout the day. These winners will all appear in the field in the 12-team format, which requires the top five ranked conference champions to advance.

In the new round, the first round games will take place on campus and the four highest seeded teams will receive byes. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be played at bowl sites, and this year’s national championship will take place Jan. 20 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

The final announcement of the College Football Playoff rankings will be released on December 8th. Here are the updated predictions after the Mountain West Championship.

Byes in the first round

No. 1 seed – Oregon (projected Big Ten champion)

Saturday, Oregon will play in its first-ever Big Ten Championship at Lucas Oil Stadium. It’s been an impressive first season in the conference for the Ducks, who will compete against each other Penn State in the title game.

Oregon ended the regular season with another stunning win and loss Washington to finish the regular season as the last undefeated team in FBS. The Ducks now prepare to travel to Indianapolis on Saturday to take on Penn State in hopes of officially securing the No. 1 seed in the 12-team College Football Playoff round.

A victory over Texas A&M in the Lone Star Showdown sent Texas to its first-ever SEC Championship. The Longhorns are making their final preparations for a high-risk rematch against the Longhorns Georgia on Saturday with a bye in the first round of the College Football Playoff.

Last week, Texas had a great performance from its defense in a win over Texas A&M – the first time the two teams had faced each other since 2011. The Aggies’ only points came on a Quinn Ewers Turnover as the Longhorns fought for the win and a trip to Atlanta.

No. 3 seed – SMU (projected ACC champion)

For the first time this year SMU is the highest-ranked ACC team – and therefore the projected conference winner. The Mustangs are in the league championship Saturday in their first season since leaving the American Athletic Conference and will try to be one of the four top-seeded conference champions.

SMU finished the regular season with a resounding 38-6 victory Cal to finish ACC play undefeated. Now the Mustangs are preparing for the encounter Clemson in Charlotte to officially bid for the College Football Playoff.

No. 4 seed – Boise State (Mountain West champion)

Led by Ashton Jeanty, Boise State became the first team to clinch a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff round on Friday night. The Broncos took a 21-0 halftime lead before rolling to a 21-7 victory over UNLV in the Mountain West Championship to become one of the five top-seeded conference champions.

Boise State enters Saturday in a strong position for a first-round bye. Both teams in the Big 12 Championship – Arizona State And Iowa State – ranked behind the Broncos in the second-to-last top 25, paving the way for BSU to finish in the top four.

No. 12 seed Arizona State (projected Big 12 champion) and No. 5 seed Penn State

The fifth highest projected conference winner, Arizona State is on its way to its first Big 12 championship after the league’s picture finally came into focus last week. The Sun Devils defeated their in-state rival Arizona out last time and will take over Iowa State in the title game, hoping to punch their ticket to the 12-team round.

For the first time since 2016 Penn State is in the Big Ten Championship. The Nittany Lions secured their appearance Ohio State loss too Michigan and their victory over MarylandPreparing for the matchup against Oregon on Saturday in Indianapolis.

No. 9 seed Tennessee and No. 8 seed Ohio State
