College Football Playoff Round Rankings Revealed: Who Will Make the Expanded 12-Team Field?

Conference Championship Saturday is over. Now the real show begins.

After more than four months of on-field results and politics from coaches, athletic directors and fans, the College Football Playoff selection committee will decide which 12 teams take the field on Sunday.

We know which teams are likely to have byes: Oregon, Georgia, Boise State and Arizona State all won their conference title games and are expected to move ahead of ACC champion Clemson, which has three losses. But there’s a lot of intrigue surrounding the last team in the field and which teams will also host playoff games in the first version of the 12-team format.

The committee’s biggest dilemma is whether SMU or Alabama gets the final spot. The Mustangs battled back against Clemson and tied the game with less than 30 seconds left before losing on a 56-yard field goal just before the end. With the loss, SMU drops to 11-2 and the Mustangs are certain to drop from No. 8 in the rankings. But will they be eliminated from the playoffs?
