College Football Playoff Scores, Results: Ohio State defeats Oregon in Rose Bowl; Texas can beat ASU in the Peach Bowl

Three teams have booked their tickets to the College Football Playoff semifinals. Who will be the fourth?

Penn State started its quarterfinals with a 31-14 win over Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl on Tuesday. Texas joined PSU in the semifinals with a dramatic double-overtime win over Arizona State in the Peach Bowl on Wednesday afternoon. Then, right at the start of the Rose Bowl, Ohio State defeated Oregon in a stunning victory.

The final game of the quarterfinals – the Sugar Bowl showdown between Georgia and Notre Dame – was postponed until Thursday after a terrorist attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans in the early hours of Jan. 1 left at least 10 people dead and dozens more dead were injured.

    Ohio State overwhelmed No. 1 Oregon from the start with a lopsided Rose Bowl victory. Next up for the Buckeyes is a CFP semifinal game against Texas in the Cotton Bowl on January 10th.

  • Oregon isn’t going anywhere

    Dillon Gabriel is sacked twice in a row and the Ducks quickly deal with him.

    The Oregon defense gets a big stop and just like that the Ducks have the ball back.

    Oregon is now missing two of its best offensive weapons, WR Evan Stewart and RB Jordan James.

    Dillon Gabriel is moving and making plays, and he has the Ducks inside the 5 and threatening to score again.

    Facing a 3rd-and-22, the Ducks managed to get a 4th-and-1 after a 21-yard pass on third down that Dillon Gabriel converted on a QB keeper.

    Well, the Ducks were at least able to hold the Buckeyes to a field goal. Jayden Fielding makes a 36-yard attempt to extend OSU’s lead.

    And Ohio State is getting closer to another result. The Buckeyes do whatever they want to start this game.

    It’s a one-play drive for the Buckeyes as TreVeyon Henderson breaks off a 66-yard touchdown run on the next play.

  • Oregon beats it back to OSU

    The Ducks simply can’t build anything offensively and are forced to punt again.

    There are 9 minutes left in the second quarter.

    The Buckeyes are running away with things in the Rose Bowl! QB Will Howard finds talented freshman Jeremiah Smith for a 43-yard touchdown – his second long touchdown of the game and Howard’s third.

  • Oregon finished in the middle of the pack in fourth place

    The Ducks faced a four-and-4 at midfield and went for it, but Dillon Gabriel’s pass fell incomplete and the Buckeyes will take over.
