College Football Playoff TV schedule: dates, teams, networks

The lineup was finalized Sunday, setting the stage for the first year of a 12-team postseason that will ultimately crown a national champion on Jan. 20 in Atlanta.

After an intense Saturday that saw No. 1 Oregon solidify its top spot with a win over Penn State in the Big Ten championship game, and losses to then-No .8 SMU begins with first round games on December 20th and 21st on ABC/ESPN and TNT/Max.

SMU’s loss to Clemson in the ACC title game represented the most controversial scenario of the round, as the CFP selection committee had perennial title contender Alabama (as well as the University of Miami) on the outside looking in early in the weekend. Ultimately, it was deemed that the Crimson Tide, who had won three of the last ten national titles, did not have enough to advance to the final twelve.

Three Western teams — Oregon, Arizona State and Boise State, all conference champions — received first-round byes, as did Georgia after it beat Texas in the SEC title game on Saturday. They will play in the quarterfinals against the first round winners from December 31st to January 1st, and the semifinals will take place from January 9th to 10th. All games after the first round will be played on ABC or ESPN.

The title game will take place on January 20 at 7:30 p.m. ET at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta and will be broadcast on ESPN.
