Colts Shane Steichen on why he said Anthony Richardson was just in pain

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – The decision to keep Colts starting quarterback Anthony Richardson out of Sunday’s crucial game against the Giants was due to Richardson’s depth, according to Indianapolis head coach Shane Steichen.

Steichen originally told reporters that Richardson was dealing with soreness after last week’s win over the Titans, but he clarified the details of Richardson’s injury after Sunday’s 45-33 loss, identifying the problem as back spasms.

Richardson’s injury limited his mobility and movement.

“It was back spasms,” said Steichen. “It was bad. He couldn’t leave or he would have been out there. He just couldn’t go today.”
