Following the Indianapolis Colts’ devastating loss to the Denver Broncos, Pro Football Focus has tallied the team’s Snap Count numbers from Sunday’s game.

So what stood out on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball?

Now, 15 weeks into the NFL season, there really aren’t many surprises at this stage of the game. For the most part, we know what playing time will generally look like for each player.

Still, there are a few notable observations to be made each week.

With help from PFF, here are the Colts’ Week 15 Snap Count numbers, along with some quick notes.

Quick takeaways

– With Ryan Kelly still on injured reserve, the team opted to let Danny Pinter start at center ahead of Tanor Bortolini. I suspect the reason for this decision was continuity at the top after the combination of Pinter at center and Mark Glowinski at right was successful in the Colts’ Week 13 win.

– Mo Alie-Cox was third among tight ends in snaps in this game, although he is often first in that category. He entered Sunday’s game as questionable with a hip injury.

– Without Ashton Dulin and then Alec Pierce leaving the game, AD Mitchell took on a much larger role.

Quick takeaways

– Tyquan Lewis was once again the fourth defensive end in terms of playing time. Before his injury, he started alongside Kwity Paye. It has now been three games since Lewis returned from IR. So I’m assuming they won’t cut him any slack anymore and that this will be the norm going forward.

– Grant Stuard played 21 snaps, which tells us that the Colts played about a third of the game in a 4-3 base defense and played the rest mostly in nickel with three cornerbacks and two linebackers.

– I’ve mentioned it before, but when Raekwon Davis was signed in the offseason, I thought there would be a larger role for him as a third defensive lineman in the rotation that would help bolster the depth of the run defense. However, he has played less than a third of the defensive snaps this year, even though his role increased at times as the team was without Buckner.
