Comedian Nikki Glaser has been chosen to host the Golden Globes after the viral Tom Brady roast and is preparing for a “terrifying” performance

Nikki Glaser has been tapped to host the Golden Globes as her viral excerpt from roasting Tom Brady continues to make the rounds on social media. The Emmy-nominated American comedian is currently conducting “joke prep” with a team of about 10 writers in Missouri ahead of the awards ceremony on January 5. Glaser is also nominated for Best Performance in Television Stand-Up Comedy for the first time – in addition to being the first solo female host in Golden Globes history.

“It’s a gig that a lot of people reject because it’s so scary. I actively want things that are live, and I think a lot of other artists just don’t like that,” she told the Wall Street Journal earlier this week.

In recent years, Glaser has made a name for himself as an extremely sharp and funny personality with a special knack for roast meat. Videos of 40-year-old football star Tom Brady being grilled about his complex love life and one-time cryptocurrency advocacy during a Netflix roast have repeatedly gone viral on social media platforms this year.

Hosting an awards show has become a difficult proposition in recent years – several prominent comedians reportedly declined an invitation to host the Globes last year. The job eventually went to Jo Koy at the last minute, but things seemed to go completely wrong with a fumbled opening monologue and rushed pacing. By most accounts, it was an awkward few minutes – the celebrities were less than amused by his monologue and some were blatant because poorly received jokes fell flat.

Glaser isn’t discouraged, however, and tells WSJ about plans to address several sensitive topics in her address. The comedian expects to tackle the “Wicked” press tour, the Sean “Diddy” Combs sex trafficking case, US President-elect Donald Trump and more.

The comedian has also made several appearances on Amazon Prime Video’s postgame show “Thursday Night Football” in recent weeks. However, their “Late Hits” segment requires Glaser and her writers to create material as they play.

“I give her and her team a lot of credit for taking a risk by performing live stand-up comedy on a sports show. And there was no way we could have rehearsed what our first piece would look like. “None of us knew what the audience reaction would be,” said Spoon Daftary, senior coordinating producer for Prime Video’s pregame, halftime and postgame shows.
