A comedian reminded CNN of a difficult part of his past on Tuesday night when he was offered a recording by New Year’s Eve hosts Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen.

“Oh no. No, I don’t do that. The last black man who drank on this network was fired,” said Roy Wood Jr., known for his “Daily Show” appearances. “I’ll leave it with water for now. I need some stability.”

Wood was apparently referring to ex-host Don Lemon, who was part of the network’s New Year’s Day show and drank during the coverage. However, Times Square colleagues Michael Ian Black and Amber Ruffin did not turn down the offer of a recording.

Wood co-hosts CNN’s weekly comedy quiz show “Have I Got News for You” alongside Black and Ruffin.

Lemon was fired from CNN in 2023 following a series of controversies and the difficulties of the relaunched AM show “CNN This Morning.”

The left-leaning host was ousted from his primetime slot to become part of a three-person anchor team for then-CEO Chris Licht’s revamped morning show, but the show never got off the ground.

Lemon memorably angered his network colleagues in 2023 when he suggested that then-51-year-old Nikki Haley was no longer “in her prime.” At the time, Haley spoke presciently about age concerns for President Biden, who was pushed out of the race a year later by members of his own party.

Lemon lasted another two months before Licht dumped him. Licht himself was thrown out in June of the same year.

Lemon recently made media headlines with his blistering attack on Donald Trump supporters amid dissent among parts of his base over H-1B visas.

“You’ve been co-opted because you’re in a damn cult and you don’t even realize it because you have a stupid MAGA brain and you don’t get it,” he said. “How stupid and stupid are you?”

He stood by his comments on his YouTube show Tuesday, saying his critics were “upset.”

“I’m not referring to all Trump supporters,” Lemon said. “I’m talking to the people with MAGA brains who will say and do anything to excuse any behavior from Donald Trump, any bad behavior from the MAGA movement.”

He continued: “So yes, I stand by my words! And if you don’t like what I said, then that’s fucking bad, I don’t care!”

Lemon also pointed out the “hypocrisy” of Trump supporters who attacked him over his language while defending their “cult leader.”

“That’s how confused you are. They have higher expectations of me, an independent journalist, a former cable anchor, than of the person sitting in the Oval Office. Because his mouth is worse than mine,” Lemon said.

Lemon also attacked Time magazine last month for choosing Trump as his successor Person of the Yearcalling the election a “joke.”

“If they wanted to make someone Person of the Year, I don’t know, they could have done it to anyone. They could have done it with someone who actually stands for democracy, who stands for democracy in the country.” Lemon said.
