Commanders vs. Buccaneers score, live updates: Jayden Daniels and Baker Mayfield face off in NFC wild card showdown

Before the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Washington Commanders head into their NFC Wild Card matchup in Tampa on Sunday night, the scoreboard operator may need to take some time. This game features two of the league’s highest-scoring offenses: the Buccaneers rank fourth (29.5 ppg) and the Commanders finish fifth in the regular season (28.5 ppg). Both clubs also have high pressure in the postseason: Tampa Bay has subsequently won six of seven, defeated Atlanta and won the NFC South, and Washington closed the regular season with a five-game winning streak, which included the win heard about the Philadelphia Eagles.

Jayden Daniels is almost a lock for the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year with his 3,568 yards and 25 touchdown passes, while also leading the Commanders – and second in the NFL among quarterbacks – in rushing yards with 891. His quarterback counterpart Baker Mayfield also posted some impressive numbers this season with 4,500 passing yards and 41 touchdown passes, both career highs for the Seventh year professional.

    Jayden Daniels takes over after a record-breaking rookie season and sets new NFL marks for completion percentage and rushing yards as a rookie quarterback. Daniels began his NFL career with a loss in Week 1 and is looking to give Washington some revenge.

    The Bucs’ opening drive stalled in Commander territory, leaving the game tied at 3 for the Bucs. There was an offside penalty on the play, but coach Todd Bowles opted not to take the points off the board – that would have resulted in a 4th-and-2. Today, all the points could be important as two of the league’s highest scoring teams are in the matchup. Washington was fifth (28.5 points per game) and Tampa Bay was fourth (29.5 points per game).

    And it was a first down too. Evans became just the second player ever, joining Jerry Rice, to post 11 consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons this year, and he remains one of the most productive receivers in the NFL.

    The rookie running back from Oregon would do well for Tampa Bay if he were the best offensive rookie in the game – his 1,122 rushing yards led the team that year to go along with eight touchdowns on the ground. He eclipsed the 100-yard mark in two of Tampa Bay’s last four games and was a key player in the Bucs’ big year finish, as Tampa Bay won six of seven to close out the regular season.
