Communities are bracing for the chaotic Thursday morning commute as snow and rain arrive

Communities are bracing for a chaotic commute Thursday morning as snow and rain heads toward Massachusetts.

In Fitchburg, people will most likely see plowable snow with this storm system.

At the DPW yard, trucks are preparing to treat the roads with a salt and sand mixture.

The last time the forecast called for up to 6 inches of snow for plowing was in April, and the DPW has pretreated the township’s 180 miles of public and 40 miles of private roads.

For anyone who might see snow tomorrow, this is a reminder:

  • Prepare for possible power outages (fully charge all devices or purchase a personal generator).

  • Prepare the car by filling up the gas tank, having an emergency kit ready, and throwing in your whisk.

  • Prepare your home (remove any rotting trees or branches that may fall around your home, clear clogged gutters, and check the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors).

  • Limit your time outdoors (don’t strain yourself while shoveling and watch for signs of frostbite).

Anyone on the way to work or school should be prepared for weather-related declines.
