Confirmed tornado touches down in Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WLOX) – A tornado touched down in northeast Jackson County Friday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the tornado touched down near Wade, Mississippi at 12:25 p.m. This is 14 miles north of Escatawpa.

As of 12:30 p.m., the tornado was moving northeast at a speed of 20 miles per hour.

The NWS warns that Wade, Hurley and Vancleave will be affected.

According to the NWS, flying debris will pose a danger to people without shelter. Mobile homes could be damaged or destroyed and there could be damage to trees, roofs, windows and vehicles.

A tornado warning was in effect for southeast George County until approximately 12:50 p.m

WLOX News received reports of a possible tornado in Pearl River County early Friday morning, but the NWS has not confirmed this as an actual tornado.

Coast Electric reported about 400 customers were without power for a time when the storms hit. As of 4:00 p.m., all of these outages had been resolved, according to the company’s outage map.
