Control is again available for free on the Epic Games Store

The Epic Games The store’s 2024 Christmas gift is Remedy’s Control. You still have about six hours until this post goes online to add it to your library permanently and for free.

Admittedly, it’s not the first time the game has taken place was offered through such an action. The Epic Games Store itself gave it away for free back in June 2021; The following year, AT&T subscribers were able to redeem the Ultimate Edition for free. In that light it might be a little disappointing. However, for anyone who hasn’t had a chance to play the game yet, it’s definitely worth taking advantage of the free offer.

Released in August 2019, Control was Remedy’s return to his own IPs after creating Quantum Break for Microsoft. It was developed with a budget of 30 million euros, which is relatively low for a triple-A game, and published by 505 Games. The game was a huge success for Remedy (over 4.5 million units sold), not to mention that it is an excellent action/adventure game, as I explained in my review of the game where I gave it an 8th rating out of 10 I gave:

Control features Remedy’s most original setting yet, the studio’s most open environment yet, and great action combat that makes you feel like a badass. Even on PC, the game stands out as one of the best examples of real-time ray tracing to date. No action/adventure fan should miss it, even if it’s not a real masterpiece.

Control is part of the so-called Remedy Connected Universe, which also includes Alan Wake. This is how the protagonist Jesse Faden appeared in the Alan Wake 2 DLC Night Springs. Of course, she will reprise her role in the upcoming action-RPG sequel, co-financed by Annapurna Interactive. The media production company will also adapt the universe to film and TV series formats.

Meanwhile, the IP will expand next year with the release of cooperative multiplayer spin-off FBC Firebreak, in which players take on the role of Federal Bureau of Control first responders sent to take on the FBC’s eerie, ever-changing headquarters Oldest, to defend House from any paranatural threat.
