Claudio Ranieri has named a relatively strong Roma team for Wednesday night’s Coppa Italia round of 16 against Sampdoria, which has already beaten two Serie A teams in the 2024/25 competition.

As a reminder, if this game ends in a draw after 90 minutes, it will go straight to a penalty shootout. There will be no extension.

First-team regulars Mario Hermoso and Evan Ndicka start as central defenders for the Giallorossi, along with full-back Zeki Celik in the back three. There is also a start for backup goalkeeper Maty Ryan.

Leandro Paredes gets the nod in the middle of the park, along with Italian youngster Nicolo Pisili. They will play behind Nicola Zalewski and Tommaso Baldanzi, who support Artem Dovbyk in attack.

Sampdoria, who have already beaten both Como and rivals Genoa in the Coppa Italia this season, made nine changes from the team that played to a 0-0 draw with Spezia in Serie B at the weekend.
