Cougars to face Colorado in Alamo Bowl, Coach Prime – Deseret News

On a critical third down at the BYU 7-yard line, Colorado QB was sacked by Logan Lutui, resulting in a loss of 23 yards. The Buffaloes then attempted a 48-yard field goal but failed and remained scoreless on the night. BYU 10, Colorado 0.

Lutui’s release was made possible by helpful pressure from seniors Tyler Batty and John Nelson.

The Buffaloes’ strong offense has looked anything but. If you take away 60 receiving yards from Heisman winner Travis Hunter, Colorado only has a -5 yard advantage over the Cougars.

After Jake Retzlaff took the ball from Colorado on a surprise onside kick and a rebound from Ethan Slade, he handed the ball off to Gerry Bohanon, who darted downfield and was blocked by Buffalo defensive back DJ McKinney. BYU 10, Colorado 0.

2:19 – Will Ferrin gives the Cougars a two-score lead with a 51-yard field goal. BYU 10, Colorado 0.

Ferrin now holds the program single-season record for field goals made with 22.

7:10 – BYU strikes first in San Antonio.

The Cougars ended the scoreless tie with a 1-yard rushing touchdown from LJ Martin – his sixth of the season – capping a six-play, 52-yard drive. BYU 7, Colorado 0.

Martin provided a crucial seven-yard gain that he converted on third down early in the drive, along with a 28-yard reception that put the Cougars in the red zone.

Additionally, backup quarterback Gerry Bohanon made a rare appearance on a gadget play to gain 11 yards and set up Martin’s goal-line score.
