Crocodile from hit film Crocodile Dundee dies peacefully, says Zoo | World News

The iconic crocodile that starred in the hit film “Crocodile Dundee” has died, his zoo announced.

Crocosaurus Cove, where Burt had been held since 2008, said he died “peacefully” over the weekend.

His age was estimated to be over 90 years old, which is well beyond the usual life expectancy.

“Burt was truly one of a kind. He wasn’t just a crocodile; he was a force of nature and a reminder of the power and majesty of these incredible creatures,” the zoo said.

“Although his personality could be challenging, that was also what made him so memorable and beloved by those who worked with him and the thousands who visited him over the years.”

“Visitors from around the world marveled at its impressive size and commanding presence, particularly at feeding time.”

Burt was first captured in the 1980s, the zoo said, and he appeared at Crocodile Dundee just before Christmas 1986.

He starred in the film alongside Paul Hogan and helped “shape Australia’s image as a country of rugged natural beauty and awe-inspiring wildlife.”

Burt, who is known for his “independent nature”, said the zoo was a “confirmed bachelor” with a “fiery temperament”, which had earned him the respect of carers and visitors.

“As we mourn his loss, we are reminded of the important role wildlife plays in our shared history and the importance of preserving it for future generations,” the zoo added.
