Crystal Palace vs Arsenal Preview – By Andy Edwards

Mikel Arteta’s side have drawn their last two PL games and have failed to capitalize on leaders Liverpool also drawing twice and having a game postponed. Arsenal now sit third in the table after red-hot Chelsea moved past them and to within two points of the top. Arteta celebrated his fifth anniversary as Arsenal manager on Friday. He won the only trophy of his tenure in his first (partial) season, the 2019-20 FA Cup. After finishing runners-up to Manchester City for the last two years, many thought this would be the year the young Gunners would make a breakthrough – especially with City bursting at the seams – but they were far too inconsistent and have only won half of their 16 games so far (8W-6D-2L). When they don’t score from set pieces (23 since the start of last season – 5 more than any other team in Europe) and Bukayo Saka doesn’t test the team, Arsenal struggle to create scoring opportunities on a regular basis.

Speaking of which, Crystal Palace’s attacking woes now appear to be a thing of the past after Oliver Glasner’s side beat rivals Brighton 3-1 last weekend and almost beat Man City before that. They are now unbeaten in five games (W2-3D-0L) after winning just one of their first 11 games at the start of the season. Ismaila Sarr seems to be feeling at home in the PL after signing from Marseille in the summer. The Senegalese winger scored two goals and an assist against Brighton and was involved in five goals in as many games. Palace have lost five times in a row to Arsenal including League Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Crystal Palace vs Arsenal forecast

Perhaps Gabriel Jesus’ hat-trick in the League Cup will breathe life into someone other than Saka. Palace will look to play a little more at home, which should give Arsenal themselves a little more time and space – if they dare to use it. Crystal Palace 1-2 Arsenal.
