Crystal Palace vs Arsenal: Preview, Predictions and Lineups

Crystal Palace and Arsenal meet for the second time in three days at Selhurst Park on Saturday, this time in the Premier League.

The two teams battled it out in the Carabao Cup round of 16 on Wednesday evening, with Arsenal being the hosts in that event and progressing to the semi-finals. Gabriel Jesus’ hat-trick saw the Eagles prevail despite a late surge sparked by Eddie Nketiah’s goal against his former employers.

Arsenal fancy their chances of back-to-back wins against their south London opponents but their recent form in the Premier League has been less than ideal. Poor draws against Fulham and Everton saw them lose ground to Chelsea and Liverpool, and victory against the Eagles wasn’t enough to usurp either of them in the table.

In contrast, Palace’s recent league form has been extremely impressive. They have found some form back after a disappointing start to the season and followed up their respectable draw against reigning champions Manchester City with an excellent A23 derby day win away to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Here is 90 minutes Guide to an all London affair.

Crystal Palace named pretty much their strongest XI against Arsenal in midweek and it’s unlikely the team will make many changes.

Daniel Munoz, who was missing from north London on Wednesday, is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the Premier League season at Brighton, but fellow defender Chadi Riad is close to a return after a three-month layoff and could be in the mix Matchday squad on Saturday.

However, Adam Wharton and Matheus Franca are still missing up front, with the former recently suffering a setback in his recovery from a groin injury, which is why he is likely to miss the rest of the calendar year.

Predicted Crystal Palace line-up against Arsenal (3-4-2-1):Henderson; Chalobah, Lacroix, Guehi; Clyne, Doucoure, Hughes, Mitchell; Sarr, Eze; Mateta.

Riccardo Calafiori

Arsenal have four injuries to their senior team, all of whom are in the full-back department. Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu are both missing at right-back, while Oleksandr Zinchenko and Riccardo Calafiori are unavailable at left-back.

Declan Rice was left out of the Arsenal squad on Wednesday due to a minor injury, but the midfielder should be available on Saturday.

Mikel Arteta made sweeping changes to his starting lineup against Palace during the week but will return to his preferred XI on Saturday. Martin Odegaard, William Saliba, Gabriel and Rice should all return to the team, fitness permitting.

Jesus secured Wednesday’s decision with a clean hat-trick, but could return to the bench with Kai Havertz.

Predicted Arsenal line-up against Crystal Palace (4-3-3): Raya; Partey, Saliba, Gabriel, Timber; Odegaard, Merino, rice; Saka, Havertz, Martinelli.

Wednesday’s meeting between the two sides was a goal-laden affair, but both coaches will be concerned about their teams’ openness at the Emirates and steps are likely to be taken to make Saturday’s clash a closer and more tactical contest.

It could be a game with comparatively good margins where Arsenal could be successful again. The Gunners have been far from their attacking best in recent games, but have superior quality in the final third and a constant threat from set pieces.

Prediction: Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal
