Crystal Palace vs Southampton live updates! – By Joe Prince-Wright

Half time: Crystal Palace 1-1 Southampton

The Saints started well and Dibling put them in front, but Chalobah equalized from a corner and the Saints were not happy with the Ramsdale push before that. Palace have been much better since taking the lead and are most likely to win in the second half.

Ramsdale makes a nice save from Sarr, then stops Lerma

Now it’s all Palace and they’re through again. Sarr is in goal and Ramsdale parries his mistake with a huge save. From the corner, Lerma sends a kick towards goal, but Ramsdale pushes him away again.

Chalobah ends – Crystal Palace 1-1 Southampton

A corner comes, which Chalobah finishes at the near post. Ramsdale wants a foul as Mateta had an arm on him, but the VAR checks it and the goal stands.

Ramsdale denies Lerma, then Sarr

Palace’s best move so far: Lerma plays a give and go and his shot is blocked by Ramsdale. A nice pass and movement from Hughes then allows Sarr to put the ball over the goal, but Ramsdale denies him again. Palace are pushing for an equalizer.

James Bree saves a volley

Aribo sends in a nice cross and it finds James Bree at the back post. His volley goes into the ground and Dean Henderson saves well under pressure. The Saints are playing well. Palace have yet to really get going.

Teenager Dibling comes home after great work from Walker-Peters! — Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton

Brilliant play on the left from Kyle Walker-Peters, who flies past Munoz and crosses. Teenager Tyler Dibling taps in from close range to send Southampton fans into a frenzy in the away game.

The palace pushes the saints to make mistakes

The hosts have stolen the ball in front of the Southampton defense on several occasions and are causing a lot of problems with Eze, Sarr and Mateta floating around. After a decent first few minutes, the Saints are currently unable to get out of their own half.

Crystal Palace lineup

Henderson; Richards, Lacroix, Chalobah; Munoz, Lerma, Hughes, Mitchell; Sarr, Eze; Mateta

Southampton line-up

Ramsdale; Harwood-Bellis, Bednarek, Wood; Bree, Aribo, Fernandes, Walker-Peters; Dibling, Armstrong; Onuachu

Crystal Palace team news, focus

USMNT center back Chris Richards is set to replace suspended Palace captain Marc Guehi. The Eagles hope Eberechi Eze can return to top form after a recent injury layoff.

OUT: Marc Guehi (suspension), Adam Wharton (groin), Rob Holding (unknown), Matheus Franca (groin), Will Hughes (knee) | QUESTIONABLE: Chadi Riad (Fitness), Franco Umeh (Thigh)

Southampton team news, focus

The Saints are likely to play a similar team to the one that played well against West Ham, although players like Cameron Archer, Adam Lallana and Ryan Manning could come in to freshen things up and keep the tempo high. Expect Paul Onuachu to provide plenty of service as the giant striker inches ever closer to his first Premier League goal.

Out: Gavin Bazunu (Achilles tendon), Ross Stewart (muscular), William Smallbone (hamstring), Jack Stephens (butt)

Crystal Palace vs Southampton prediction

This is a massive game for both teams and it feels like it will be decided by one goal as both teams play the same system and it will be very close. Something suggests Southampton will get a big win to give them confidence in their fight against relegation. Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton.

Crystal Palace vs Southampton preview

Oliver Glasner’s side have lost just one of their last seven Premier League games and are becoming increasingly difficult to beat (there have been four draws in that series). There was a 0-0 draw away to Bournemouth on Boxing Day. But they are still unable to match last season’s peaks with Eze and Mateta. Injuries happen all the time and Palace are now just three points above the relegation zone heading into this game.

Southampton impressed on Boxing Day under new manager Ivan Juric but missed a number of great chances lost 1-0 at home to West Ham. The Saints’ new style of play under the Croatian coach is to press high, deliver crosses into the penalty area and push players forward. This leaves them vulnerable on the counterattack, but at this point they must try to force their way back to the hitters above them. They are nine points from safety heading into this game week.
