CT Weather: 12,000 residents without power as snow continues Thursday

CONNECTICUT — More than 12,000 Connecticut residents are without power as a storm that blanketed parts of the state with heavy, wet snow continues to move through Thursday morning.

Behind the storm, which is expected to ease by late morning, wind gusts of up to 50 mph are possible Thursday, which could cause power outages across the state. (Check back throughout the day for live updates on power outages and road closures.

“Rainfall continues this morning. Given the configuration with a south/southwesterly wind, we are not seeing snow across all of CT,” said meteorologists at WFSB 3 TV. “Instead, coastal and southeastern CT will see mostly rain, while inland snow will occur (particularly along and northwest of I-84 and throughout northeastern CT). Regardless, the conditions are certainly there for a snowy/wet commute this morning. Across the hills of NW and NE CT communities could rise 2 to 5 inches…the higher the elevation, the higher the end of this range. Elsewhere inland, expect 2 to 5 inches of coating… meanwhile, coastal and southeastern CT will provide little to nothing.”

Due to the strong wind gusts, there is also a chance of snow squalls this afternoon.

“These will develop in isolation and could briefly reduce visibility while adding a quick layer of snow to a half-inch of snow,” WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said. (Read/Watch more on WFSB 3 TV).
