A team that was interested in trading Crochet is no longer in talks with the White Sox because they believe the asking price was too high.

“We’re out. They wanted three of our best candidates. Three. We can’t do that,” a senior team source told Sports Illustrated’s Tom Verducci.

The details of how high the aforementioned prospects ranked on this team’s roster are unclear.

It was expected to be quite a challenge to sign Crochet, a 25-year-old who has two years of team control left and will make about $3 million in 2025.

Given his injury history and the fact that he didn’t become a starter until 2024, it’s reasonable to be concerned about his stamina. But Crochet was injury-free all season and threw a career-high 146.0 innings.

The Red Sox were “not an aggressor” in a potential trade for Crochet, according to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo and Sean McAdam, who note that the Mets, Yankees and Reds have been more aggressive.

According to MassLive, the Red Sox – who applied Max Fried before he signed an eight-year contract with the Yankees on Tuesday night, preparing to make a free agent offer Corbin Burnes.

If the Red Sox were to sign Burnes, it would seemingly be even less likely that they would trade multiple top prospects for Crochet.

Boston has one of the best farm systems in baseball and could probably make the White Sox a more attractive trade offer for Crochet than any other interested team if they wanted to.

As for the Yankees, signing Fried could potentially eliminate them from the running for Crochet.

According to Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic, the Mets and Yankees are among the “most aggressive suitors” for Crochet.

In addition to the New York teams, the Red Sox, Phillies and Orioles are also interested in a deal for the left-hander.

The White Sox have announced that they are looking for players in a potential deal for Crochet.

The 25-year-old Crochet has two years of team control remaining as he is eligible to referee the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

When Crochet was the subject of trade rumors during the deadline last season, he made it clear that he was willing to sign a long-term contract before entering free agency.
