Current snow and ice chances this week

The chance of snow and ice in South Carolina is taking shape

TUESDAY MORNING. Many of us are experiencing a severe frost, but it is still quite windy throughout the area, especially in the mountains. IF YOU CONSIDER WIND COOLING. Well, it felt like a single digit this morning. RIGHT NOW, ABOUT TEN IN ASHEVILLE, ABOUT 17 IN PICKENS. THAT COMES AND GOES WITH THE WIND. RIGHT NOW there are few storms in parts of the mountains north of I-40. THESE WILL DISPOSE. EVERYONE WILL ENJOY SOME SUNSHINE. There is a fairly calm weather pattern across the area today. TOMORROW AND ALSO ON THURSDAY. BUT IT WILL BE ALL ABOUT THE COLD TEMPERATURES, NOT JUST DURING THE DAY, BUT DURING THE NIGHTTIME LOW AS WELL AS TONIGHT, PARTLY CLOUDY AND EVEN COLDER TOMORROW AFTERNOON. AND AS WE GO INTO THURSDAY, WE HAVE A LOT OF SUNSHINE. BUT BUT AGAIN: DAILY HIGH IN THE 30S AND 40S. THIS NIGHTTIME LOW IN THE TEENS AND 20S DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU LIVE AS WE GO INTO THE WEEKEND, ALL EYES ON THIS SYSTEM HERE, AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE THAT WILL LIKELY DEVELOP OFF THE TEXAS COAST AS WE IN GO THURSDAY, DEPENDING ON THE exact route, this is somehow to the south of us. If that happens, there could be some snow or even a wintry mix later in the day. Friday through Friday evening and then snow or a light mix as we head into early Saturday morning. The good news is that this will be a fast-moving system. And remember, we’ve had several updates from time to time, but the very latest European weather model is spitting out about half an inch to an inch of snow, and then a little more as we get closer to Saturday. WITH RESPECT TO ICE, ANYTHING FROM A GLAZE OR A TENTH OF AN INCH TO A QUARTER OF AN INCH OF ICE IS ALSO POSSIBLE. So again, nothing is set in stone, not a guarantee, just something we’ll watch until the weekend. TODAY 46 DEGREES, TOMORROW AND THURSDAY 45 DEGREES. THIS NIGHT DEEP. Boy, it’s going to hit rock bottom. FRIDAY IS A MAINTENANCE DAY WHERE SNOW AND ICE ARE POSSIBLE, WITH AN EARLY MIXING POSSIBLE. STILL EARLY SATURDAY MORNING WITH ICEY ROADS. UNTIL WE GET OVER THE HEIGHTS

The arctic air has arrived and will keep temperatures between 30 and 40°C in our area this week. Overnight lows will be very cold and harsh, falling into the teens and lows into the low 20s this week. We are watching the system likely develop off the coast of Texas on Thursday and then move toward us very quickly. This will be a rapidly evolving system, even if it is evolving more slowly based on the latest timing. At the moment it looks like it will start on Friday afternoon/evening and end in the very early hours of Saturday. Both snow and freezing rain are possible in the area, but nothing is set in stone at this point. Track rain and storms on the interactive radar here. View the latest warnings in your area here.
