Current snow levels as a winter storm hits Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS – Snow is piling up across Minnesota the biggest storm of the winter season runs through the state so far.

A winter storm warning is in effect for a portion of the state stretching from the North Dakota border near Fargo to Rochester in southern Minnesota. This also includes the Twin Cities.

There was heavy snowfall throughout the morning, but after midday the situation subsides and eventually ends in the evening.

WCCO NEXT Weather Watchers across the state are already reporting impressive amounts of snow.

Trent Witz in Minneapolis recorded 4.2 inches before 9 a.m. Roger Hintze in Shoreview saw 4.5 inches around the same time.

Further north in the metro, Joy Ladd in Coon Rapids reported 2.2 inches, while Kathy Born in Blaine recorded 2.5 inches. In Vadnais Heights, Richard Lauhead noted 6 inches shortly before 10 a.m

The highest totals in the state are south of the Twin Cities, where Bernie and Nancy Hollinger in Northfield measured 7.2 inches and Debra Foster in Cannon Falls measured 6 inches.

Further south, totals were slightly lower, with Samantha Milton in Owatonna reporting 3.5 inches.

“Okay, Mother Nature, you can turn off the snow now,” Milton said.

Jack and Jackie Luedke achieved 3 inches in Warsaw.

The northernmost report is from Brainerd, where Richard Stoltman reported 1.2 inches around 8 a.m

Melrose in central Minnesota has 3.2 inches so far, according to Jacob Primus. Jim Hovda said 2.1 inches fell in Rice.

Totals in western Wisconsin range from 1.4 inches in Osceola (Margaret Bader) to 3.5 inches further south in Trimbelle (Duke O’Brien).

While official totals will come in more slowly, the National Weather Service reported that by 6 a.m. 2.2 inches in Chanhassen, 1.1 in St. Cloud and 1.1 in Minneapolis-St. Cloud had fallen 1.6 inches. Paul International Airport and tracks in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
