The Florida Department of Children and Families hosts events for its Disaster Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program.

It provides food assistance to people affected by Hurricanes Helene, Milton or both.

For people who struggle afterward, like Glayd’s Pac, this is something they’ve been waiting for.

“In my case, it was terrible because I’m out of work for two months because I use my car to work and I lost my car,” she said.

Bridget Royster, the deputy secretary of the Office of Economic Self-Sufficiency, said they have hundreds of workers on site to help people with this process.

She said those who pre-register can complete the process within 10 minutes.

“We would like you to pre-register before your visit, but if you are unable to do so, there will be assistance there to assist you with pre-registration,” she said. “Then you move on to the next phase and do your interview. We will go through the information you provided in your application and then make the eligibility decision.”

Gladys said the workers inside have been a big help.

Although she speaks English, it is her second language.

With the help of those inside, the process was easy, she said.

“If you don’t understand a form or something else, they can help you. You have bilingual people, Spanish or English.”

This DSNAP event runs daily through Monday from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Polk County continues through Sunday.
