Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy is reportedly safe with the team for 2025

There are two games left in the Dallas Cowboys season. With the team officially out of playoff contention, we know it will just be a while before they make some decisions for 2025 and beyond.

As the offseason begins, the Cowboys need to work on several things. It would be great to see extensions for Micah Parsons and DaRon Bland early, and it goes without saying that seeing them active early in free agency would be a breath of fresh air.

Before we get to that, however, the Cowboys need to finally do something about their head coaching situation instead of using boilerplate words and phrases in their media appearances. Mike McCarthy is nearing the end of his fifth season with the team and his first contract signed, and Dallas must either give him a new one or start looking for a new captain.

According to reports, it will be the former.

An NFL insider believes Mike McCarthy is safe for 2025

We’re about to watch as the Cowboys let a third straight coach’s contract expire. Jason Garrett’s contracts expired after both 2014 and 2019, and after the latter was not asked to return. Now we come to Mike McCarthy.

It goes without saying that this season has been inconsistent for the Cowboys, and much of that had to do with the way the front office approached things the offseason before. McCarthy hardly did himself any favors to begin with, but over the last six weeks it appears that what he’s doing is working well, and to do it amid a firestorm of injuries is, objectively speaking, an impressive thing.

Regardless of whether the recent run has anything to do with it or not, one report suggests Mike McCarthy will be safe. The athlete‘s Dianna Russini noted on the latest episode of Scoop City that she has spoken to people around the league who believe this will be the case.

“I’ve talked to people around the league who believe Mike McCarthy will be safe.”

After Sunday night’s win over the Buccaneers, Jerry Jones spoke confidently about Mike McCarthy; However, he declined to give any hints about what the future would bring.

As the offseason approaches, it stands to reason that Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson will be the hottest name on the market. Aside from the fact that Dallas may not be the most desirable place for aspiring head coaches, recent reports suggest that the Cowboys may not be a good fit for Johnson given the way they run their business.

Or maybe you would have been interested in Bill Belichick as an alternative option in a world without Johnson. But with Belichick now leading the University of North Carolina program, he is no longer on the board either.

The signs have been pointing in this direction for some time, and as mentioned above, we are very close to a clear answer. Do you think there’s a fire burning underneath all that smoke, or do you think it’s just the normal smoke associated with the way the Cowboys go about things?
