Dan Orlovsky believes Jeremiah Smith would be the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft

Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith was one of the best players, let alone receivers, in all of college football as a true freshman this year. He was so great that we’re starting to discuss his abilities as a pro after his last performance, two years before he’s even considered.

On Get Up on Monday, Dan Orlovsky talked about Smith after playing for the Buckeyes in the Rose Bowl in the College Football Playoff. He explained that if Smith could be drafted this spring, he would go No. 1 overall in 2025.

“Well, they have a player who, if Jeremiah Smith came out in the draft this year, would be the first pick,” Orlovsky said. “Not even close. He would be a candidate for number one.

“In the playoffs, he had 13 catches for 204 yards and four touchdowns. Those four touchdowns take 37, 22, 43 and 45. They have the best player still in the playoffs. He would be the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft this year.”

In doing so, Orlovsky compared Smith to one of the better receivers in league history over the last decade or so.

“He’s Julio Jones,” Orlovsky said.

Former Florida State and NFL quarterback EJ Manuel also agreed, as Smith is now the latest great receiver from Columbus.

“That kid, Jeremiah Smith, man? He’s different,” Manuel said. “It seems like every year they have a different receiver.”

In 14 appearances in his first college season, Smith now has 70 receptions for 1,224 yards and 14 touchdowns. He scored a basket in 11 of those games, including three straight games, two of which were their previous meetings in the CFP. So in the playoffs alone, he averaged 6.5 catches for 145 yards and two touchdowns.

Smith was a sensation this season at just 19 years old. However, the college will still appreciate him for two full years before any franchise lands on him until 2027 at the earliest.
