D’Andre Swift receives Bears’ biggest fine of the season

Running back D’Andre Swift isn’t exactly the player you’d expect to be involved in a play outside the rules, but he received the NFL’s largest fine for an incident in Monday night’s game in Minnesota.

Swift was fined $22,511 for hitting with his helmet on a 6-yard run around right end when tackled by Josh Metellus with 6:48 left in the first half .

There was no penalty for the game.

Swift’s penalty exceeded the most for any Bears player this year. That was the $19,697 fine levied on cornerback Tyrique Stevenson by the league for an incident involving Detroit’s Jameson Williams during the Lions’ 23-20 victory over Chicago on Thanksgiving Day.

Last week, defensive end Darrell Taylor received his third fine of the year, $16,883, for hitting 49ers QB Brock Purdy in the head during the 38-13 loss to the Bears in San Francisco on Dec. 8.

Swift’s penalty was only the second this season levied against a Bears offensive player. Matt Pryor had the other during an end zone fight at Soldier Field against New England.
