The one where David Ross Geller can’t escape.

David Schwimmer looked back at the sitcom’s lasting legacy Friends during a recent appearance on Good morning America to promote his new thing Goose flesh series The disappearanceand reveals Ross Geller’s only iconic line that he still encounters every day.

“A lot of random people are yelling at me,” the actor said, referring to the memorable Season 5 episode (Season 5: “The One with the Cop”) in which his character tries to fit a new couch into his cramped new home York climbs city apartment stairs with pals Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) and Chandler (Matthew Perry).

“Sometimes it’s amazing,” Schwimmer quipped. “But it’s also just a reminder that the show lives on.” When co-host Robin Roberts praised the actor several years later for agreeing to reprise his former role, the actor called the sitcom ” the gift that keeps on giving.”

“When I meet people from another country on the street and they say, ‘I just have to say, I learned English watching your show,’ or a father stops me and says, ‘My child was really, really sick and the only thing that kept them going in the hospital was just watching Friends“You feel really grateful and blessed to have done something that people enjoy,” Schwimmer said.

The sitcom, which aired on NBC for ten seasons between 1994 and 2004, followed the lives of six close-knit friends in New York. In conversation with Weekly entertainment On the occasion of the sitcom’s 25th anniversary in 2019, series co-creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman said they did not expect the pivot scene to become such a pivotal moment in the series’ zeitgeist.

“I remember there was a discussion in the writers’ room about, ‘Can we do a story that’s as easy as getting a sofa up a flight of stairs?'” recalls Crane. “Even on stage it was fantastically funny,” he says. “The three of them were simply brilliant and did everything they could to get through.”

“You never expect something like this,” added Pivot!’s Crane. becomes a signature catchphrase among fans of the show. “You just try to tell funny stories and make it work. There was never any thought of, ‘Wow, this is an iconic moment.'”
