Day two Australian Open tennis tips, odds and best bet

The Australian Open first round competition continues on Monday with packed play. Participants on the court include Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Coco Gauff and Naomi Osaka. Sinner is the defending champion while Djokovic is a ten-time winner at Melbourne Park. Osaka is aiming for her third win Down Under.

Let’s take a look at the best bets to make on the Day 2 schedule.

Parlay: Denis Shapovalov ML over Roberto Bautista Agut and Jordan Thompson ML over Dominik Koepfer and (-107)

Shapovalov was the absolute owner of Bautista Agut in the past. The Canadian left-hander has won all three of his previous meetings and is 7-0 overall in all sets. Bautista Agut only forced a tiebreaker once. The Spaniard is also 36 years old – 11 years older than his opponent. It’s not like Bautista Agut will suddenly close the gap. Meanwhile, Thompson also has a 3-0 head-to-head lead over Thompson. The Australian won 6 of his 7 sets. There is no reason to believe anything will change Down Under, where Thompson has home advantage and is supported by a raucous Australian crowd. The 30-year-old is also coming off the best season of his career, so all signs point to a routine win.

Gabriel Diallo ML over Luca Nardi (-171)

Let’s stay on the Canadian bandwagon and back Diallo to join Shapovalov in the second round. Diallo, a former college star at Kentucky, made impressive strides on the pro tour last year. That includes being a qualifier in the third round of the US Open, so he knows what he’s doing on the big stage. He ended his 2024 season with a second-place finish in Almaty and started 2025 with a semifinal appearance in Hong Kong. Nardi is not particularly adept on hard courts and his two previous trips to the Aussie Open resulted in brief qualifying defeats. Diallo really should be the bigger favorite here.

Jana Fett +6.5 games over Marketa Vondrousova (-124)

Vondrousova won Wimbledon 2023 out of nowhere and is also a former French Open finalist (2019). Those results still have her being hyped up by the markets, but – largely due to injuries – she is a shadow of her former self. The Czech left-hander has played just two matches since Wimbledon last July and has won just two matches since the French Open. So there’s just no way I’m giving almost any opponent 6.5 games – especially an opponent who has confidence after qualifying for the main draw in Melbourne. That’s right; Fett has more wins in this tournament alone than Vondrousova has in the last 7 months. I wouldn’t even be surprised if it turned out to be a complete surprise.
