Deion Sanders: It’s fascinating to hear about Jerry Jones, but I love everything about Boulder

On Monday the news came that Mike McCarthy will not return as the Cowboys’ head coach in 2025 and the first word about a possible replacement followed.

According to reports Monday night, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has spoken with former Cowboys cornerback and current University of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders about coming back to Dallas. Sanders said in November that his “hard” was in Boulder and he was “excited” to be at the school, saying earlier this month that the opportunity to coach his sons Shadeur and Shilo was the “only option.” He would consider a move to the NFL.

It’s unlikely the Cowboys will end up with Shadeur, considered one of the top quarterback prospects in this year’s class, but Sanders was less clear in his first comment on the Jones conversation.

“Hearing from Jerry Jones is really wonderfuland it’s fascinating,” Sanders told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. “I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. When you put it on, process it and think about it, it’s fascinating. But I love Boulder and everything it has to do with our team, the coaches, our student body and the community.”

In addition to the difficulties of coaching his sons, Sanders also has to walk away from his $8 million contract with Colorado. That could take the Cowboys’ search in a different direction, no matter how intriguing the Sanders game might be on paper.
