Delta passenger ‘furious’ after airline gives up seat to Dog

A Delta Air Lines passenger is angry after the airline allegedly forced him to give up his seat to a dog on a recent flight.

The traveler aired his grievances on the Delta subreddit on Saturday, December 21, calling the company’s decision to downgrade her an “absolute joke” – sparking tons of criticism and support.

“I was upgraded to first seat this morning, only to be downgraded 15 minutes later (to a (worse) seat than before),” the passenger began the post, captioned, “I just got demoted because of a dog.”

“I asked the receptionist what was going on and she said, ‘Something has changed,'” they continued.

The passenger recalled that their first reaction was “Okay, fine, I’m upset, but whatever” – until they saw who was taking their previous seat on the plane.

“I then board only to see this dog in my first class seat… And now I’m angry,” the traveler wrote.

They also shared a photo of the puppy that was placed in their previous seat, revealing that it was a large dog that appeared to be a service animal for the passenger next to them.

The angry traveler said he tried to speak to Delta support “immediately” but didn’t get the response he wanted. Support staff told them, “You may be rehoused for service animals,” or in other words, “There’s nothing you can do.”

“There is no way this dog spent as much on this airline as I did… What an absolute joke. 😅,” the passenger wrote, then asked why he supported the company.

“What’s the point of remaining loyal to this airline,” they said. “I sat back as others complained that this airline has been treating its customers poorly and declining in service levels recently, but I’m also starting to question my loyalty. 😡.”

Other Reddit users had mixed reactions to the passenger’s story. Some were compassionate and could relate to the treatment they had experienced, while others simply told them to just shut it up.

“This nonsense about taking your dog everywhere is getting out of hand,” read one top comment. “And don’t even say, ‘It’s a service animal.’ Stay home or drive if you need your pet so badly.”

“I’m not sure if you know this, but you can’t drive everywhere,” one user replied in response to the comment, while another questioned why “people with real ADA disabilities” and their service “for their behavior should be punished.” others.”

And turning their attention to the original poster (OP), the responder added: “And no offense, OP, you’re assuming that Delta is taking the risk of violating the ADA and being sued because…checks notes … because you spent more money than the dog?”

Others responded by questioning the legitimacy of the dog’s service animal status based on the attached photo, while others simply said the pup “was a good boy.”

“I’d give him your spot too,” one comment simply read, while another person made a joking statement: “Dog gets 7 miles for every human mile.”

Delta Air Lines did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
