Dem Rep Faced With Clip Claiming Biden Wouldn’t Pardon Hunter: ‘How Does That Feel?’

CNN anchor Brianna Keilar criticized Rep. Dan Goldman, D-N.Y., over his previous comments claiming President Biden would never pardon his son Hunter.

Biden issued a full apology to Hunter on Sunday after repeatedly promising not to do so. The first son was convicted in two separate federal cases earlier this year. He pleaded guilty to federal tax charges in September and was convicted of three gun crimes in June after he lied on a mandatory gun purchase form and said he had not used drugs illegally or had a drug addiction.

The president argued in a statement that Hunter was “singled out solely because he is my son” and that an attempt was made to “break Hunter” to “break me.”

Keilar interviewed Goldman on Monday and recalled: “They came out to support Biden when he said there would be no pardon in July 2023, shortly after that deal fell through.”

The news anchor then played a recording of Goldman arguing that Biden would never pardon his son in 2023.

“I don’t think President Biden will do that, unlike his predecessor who pardoned all of his friends and everyone who had access to him. And I think that’s what you see in this case where he went ahead and Merrick Garland hired a Trump-appointed U.S. attorney to investigate the president’s son when there was no evidence of the Justice Department’s independence beyond that “I don’t know what we could be looking for,” the congressman told Time.

“How does that feel?” Keilar Goldman asked. “I watched back then reassuring people that Biden would not pardon his son.”

“Yes, and I think if this plea agreement and this plea agreement had been reached, there would be no pardon, that would be a satisfactory outcome,” Goldman began.

“It had already fallen,” Keilar interjected, correcting her guest. “When you responded, the deal fell through.”

She further argued that while she could understand his concerns about President-elect Donald Trump’s nomination of Kash Patel as FBI director, that doesn’t negate the fact that he misunderstood Biden’s plan.

“You know, you took him at his word, so how does it feel to know that he’s no longer interested?” she asked.

“Well, as I said, I am disappointed that the plea deal failed after it failed and it became clear why it failed, including the intervention of the Republican Congress in this case, which made this case very unique and very different from all other cases. ” he argued.

He further argued that Hunter was specifically targeted because he is the president’s son and that he may face “retaliatory prosecution for political reasons” under Trump’s new Justice Department.
