Denver rolls Snake Eyes against UNLV in overtime 6-6(1) shootout loss

Denver doubled UNLV in every statistical category except blocks (21-3) and goals during a 6-6 (1) OT shootout loss at Magness Arena on Saturday night.

Denver faced the UNLV Rebels in an exhibition game Saturday night. UNLV hit Matt Davis three times in the first fifteen minutes before Kieran Cebrian scored for Denver to make it 3-1.

Two minutes into the second half, the Rebels scored again to make it 4-1. Freddie Halyk started in goal for Denver. The Rebels scored their fifth goal with three minutes left in the second period, all tied.

DU’s Cale Ashcroft trailed 5-2 early in the third period. Three minutes later, DU’s Aiden Thompson scored on the power play to make it 5-3. Four minutes later, Carter King brought the Pioneers within one goal, 5-4. Less than a minute later, UNLV scored on a screen to make it 6-4.

DU’s Rieger Lorenz countered with a power play goal eight minutes before the end to make it 6:5. Aiden Thompson tied the game 6-6 with 3:23 left and regulation play ended smoothly.

DU outscored the Rebels 10-2 in the extra frame, but Denver could never beat goaltender Jeremy Forman. During the shootout, UNLV’s Mattias Dal Monte scored the only goal.
