Derrick Henry sets Ravens rushing record in win over Steelers: “Best in the business”

Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry didn’t just outrun the Pittsburgh Steelers in a 34-17 win at M&T Stadium on Saturday night.

According to ESPN Stats Info, Henry ran 24 times for 162 yards, an average of 6.8 yards per carry. This is the most productive rushing day for a Ravens ball carrier against the Steelers in team history, according to ESPN Stats Info.

Henry had seven carries of 10 or more yards, the most of any player in a game this season.

He is the fifth player in NFL history with four or more seasons with 1,500 rushing yards. The list includes legends Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Eric Dickerson and Edgerrin James.

“You have to bring your skill level every time you play these guys, but we try not to put too much emphasis on the rivalry,” Henry said. “We know that if we play the way we know how, we’ll give ourselves a chance against anyone.”

Henry is in his first year with the Ravens after eight seasons with the Tennessee Titans.

The Ravens rushed for a total of 220 yards. QB Lamar Jackson added 22 and backup Justice Hill ran twice for 30 yards but left the game due to a concussion.

Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh called Henry “the best in the business.”

“It starts right there with No. 22 (Derrick Henry). That’s where it starts,” Harbaugh said. “It also starts with the offensive line. Our offense played really great tonight. I thought our coaches did a great job planning the run game. … Really well-executed running game and (we have) a tough runner (and) the best in the business.”

For the Steelers, the focus after the game was their inability to stop Henry and the Baltimore running game.

“It comes down to just playing solid defense. Just the simple things, tackling, including myself, being gap-free, relying on everyone in the gap game,” Steelers outside linebacker TJ Watt said. “And ultimately it was about bringing the runner down, and we didn’t do that enough tonight.”

Henry has 1,636 yards on 278 carries (5.9 YPC) and 13 touchdowns, which is his most in a season since 2020.

The Ravens defeated the Steelers for the first time since 2022. Entering the game, Pittsburgh had won eight of their last nine meetings.
