DeSantis ends rivalry with Newsom and offers help to blue state’s beleaguered governor

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has offered to support California as Gov. Gavin Newsom grapples with multiple fires in Los Angeles County this week.

“Our prayers are with everyone affected by the terrible fires in Southern California. When disaster strikes, we must come together to help our fellow Americans in any way we can,” DeSantis wrote to X on Wednesday morning.

“The state of Florida has offered assistance to the people of California to respond to these fires and rebuild devastated communities,” he added.

DeSantis’ offer of support to California comes after he led his state through Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helene last year. The two governors have clashed frequently in recent years, particularly as Florida opened for business during the pandemic and California issued strict lockdown orders and mandates.

If you are in Southern California, please pay attention to weather reports and follow instructions from emergency authorities.”

“I receive regular updates about the wildfires in West Los Angeles. My team and I are in contact with state and local officials, and I have offered any federal assistance needed to combat the terrible Pacific Palisades fire.
