Details on Flavor Flav Alleged NBC Security Incident at Rockefeller Christmas Tree Ceremony

Flavor Flav says his “spirit is broken” after an alleged incident involving security guards operating on NBC’s behalf at the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Wednesday night.

In a tweet that has since been removed, Flav, an undeniable highlight of NBC’s coverage of the Paris Olympics over the summer, said he was hanging out with his Backstreet Boys friends when he was approached by security. Confusingly, Flav says he was simultaneously asked to take part in creating social media content for the event.

“I feel weird,” Flav told fans in the now-deleted tweet. “I was invited to the Rockefeller tree lighting tonight and was joined by my boys, the Backstreet Boys, and we were backstage in their dressing room. Security came up to me and said NBC didn’t want me in that area and I had to leave. At the same time, her social media wife came and asked to capture social content.”

Flav continued: “What have I ever done to NBC or anyone? I always just try to spread joy and love and I think I did that for NBC at the Olympics.”

Flav then added: “I deleted the tweet but my spirit is broken.” He also shouted “BSB” and wrote in response to a fan who asked if the group stood up for him during the alleged incident : “They stood up for me.” They definitely did.”

In a later tweet, Flav shared a video of himself enjoying the ceremony, suggesting the issue was at least somewhat resolved. He also posted shots of himself with the BSB boys on IG and shared a few vacation photos with his friend Jack Barakat, All Time Low’s guitarist.

Complex has reached out to NBC representatives for comment. This story may be updated.

In a sign that X, formerly known as Twitter, still has some of its old life in it, many were quick to turn Flav’s “I deleted the tweet but my spirit is broken” into a playful meme, like this:

It’s hard to imagine Flav himself not getting a big laugh out of this, even though he hadn’t yet joined in on the memory at the time of writing.
