Detroit Lions CB Terrion Arnold injury: X-rays negative

Terrion Arnold was ruled out of Sunday’s crucial NFC North win over the Minnesota Vikings with a foot injury, but the Detroit Lions cornerback said he expects to play when the Lions return to the field for their playoff opener in two weeks.

“I’m playing,” Arnold told the Free Press in the locker room after the game.

Arnold was injured while tackling Vikings running back Aaron Jones with 11:39 left in the third quarter when teammate Al Quadin-Muhammad stepped on his right foot.

He did not put any weight on his leg as trainers helped him off the field and, after a brief examination on the Lions sideline, he was taken by ambulance to the locker room.

Lions coach Dan Campbell said after the game that X-rays of Arnold’s foot came back negative, and Arnold, who wore a walking boot on his foot as he sat in front of his locker, said he believed he avoided serious injury.

“I had the moment where I talked to God,” he said. “I just put it in his hands. And we got a bye week. We have the best coaches in the NFL and I feel comfortable and I feel like they can bring me back. We’ll just put it in God’s hands.”

The Lions defeated the Vikings 31-9 on Sunday to clinch the NFC North title and a first-round playoff bye. They will face the lowest remaining seed in the divisional round of the playoffs on Jan. 18 or 19 at Ford Field.

Despite massive injury problems on defense, the Lions finished the regular season 15-2 and held the high-scoring Vikings without a touchdown on Sunday.

Top cornerback Carlton Davis III hasn’t played since Dec. 15 because of a broken jaw, and Amik Robertson and Kindle Vildor finished Sunday as the Lions’ top two cornerbacks. Robertson opened the season as the Lions’ slot cornerback and Vildor played primarily as a backup.

Arnold said he was “extremely proud” of the Lions’ defensive performance on Sunday.
