Detroit Pistons receive positive signals from Cade Cunningham on Monday

On Monday, the Detroit Pistons returned to practice after a grueling two-game stretch. Monday’s session was in preparation for Detroit’s final NBA Cup group game. The Pistons host the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday and have the opportunity to advance to the knockout phase.

Recently, the Pistons ruled out Cade Cunningham as a late starter against the Philadelphia 76ers. The sudden absence was a concern given the importance of this week’s NBA Cup game.

However, according to JB Bickerstaff, the Pistons received a positive sign from Cunningham on Monday as he returned to practice as a full participant.

“JB said ‘pretty much’ everyone was fully engaged at practice,” Omari Sankofa of the Detroit Free Press reported. “The exception might be (Bobi) Klintman.”

Recently, Cunningham has been dealing with a pelvic injury that he suffered in the fourth quarter of a late loss to the Charlotte Hornets.

On November 23, Cunningham was eliminated against the Orlando Magic as he did not have a chance to play. In the next two games against the Toronto Raptors and Memphis Grizzlies, Cunningham was listed as questionable. Although he saw a slight improvement, Cunningham did not feature in these matches.

Cade Cunningham’s status was in question during the NBA Cup game against the Indiana Pacers last Friday. He was able to play again for the first time since November 21st.

In 32 minutes of play, Cunningham scored 24 points, 11 assists, six rebounds and two steals. The Pistons dominated the Pacers with a 24-point win.

The following night, Cunningham was not placed on the injury report, indicating he was good to go. The veteran guard was even included in the Pistons’ official starting five announcements. However, his status changed shortly before the game was announced.

“It was one of those things where we were talking, he went out and tried to get away, and we just thought it was the right thing to do out of an abundance of caution because of what he was feeling and what he was coming back from,” JB Bickerstaff told reporters on Saturday .

The good news is that Cunningham’s late status change wasn’t due to a sudden setback. Barring any unexpected changes, Cunningham should be good to go Tuesday night against Milwaukee.
