On Monday, December 9th, a terrible wildfire broke out in Malibu, California, forcing thousands of residents to evacuate their homes.

Those residents included legendary actor Dick Van Dyke, 98, and his wife Arlene Silver, who assured fans Tuesday that they had safely escaped the danger zone.

However, one beloved family member remained behind: Dick and Arlene’s beloved cat Bobo.

On his official Facebook page, Dick explained that they managed to escape with most of their pets, but unfortunately Bobo escaped at the last moment.

A post mentioning the safe evacuation of Dick Van Dyke and Arlene with animals, except one named Bobo, due to fires in the Serra Retreat community

“Arlene and I evacuated safely with our animals, except for Bobo, who escaped upon departure,” he wrote. “We pray that he is well and that our community at Serra Retreat survives these terrible fires.”

And Bobo was clearly on Dick’s mind as the star shared a video of the orange cat later that same day, adding in the caption: “I hope Bobo is okay.”

Needless to say, Dick and Arlene were immediately showered with support from followers who expressed their concern and well wishes for the cat in this frightening situation – but thankfully there was a happy ending in the end.

Dick commented on the original Facebook post late Wednesday night, confirming that Bobo was dutifully waiting at home for his owners when they returned.

Sharing a photo with fans of a smiling Arlene holding her pet with members of the animal control agency, Dick said: “We found Bobo when we got back home this morning.”

“Interest in his disappearance was so great that animal protection authorities were called to help. But luckily he was easy to find and unharmed,” he confirmed.

Interestingly, Bobo isn’t the only celebrity cat to have a lucky escape from a fire accident this year. Cara Delevingne believes her beloved pets died in a house fire in March.

Cara was in London when the fire broke out at her Los Angeles home, which reportedly took 94 firefighters more than two hours to put out.

The British model had little hope for the well-being of her two cats at the time and – believing they had died – shared a photo of them on Instagram and wrote: “My heart is broken today. I can’t believe it.” Life can change in the blink of an eye. So appreciate what you have.”

Hours later, Cara announced that both cats had been found and rescued by firefighters and were confirmed to be unharmed.

A Franklin Fire warning is currently still in effect in Malibu, but Malibu Mayor Doug Stewart expressed optimism when speaking to CNN on Wednesday.

“We are doing much better this morning than we have been in the last 30-plus hours,” he said.

“Up to this point, it was a wind-driven fire,” added Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone. “As the wind changes direction, the fire will spread to new areas.”
