Did a couple really have sex with an elephant at this Miami Beach exhibit? What we know

A couple got a little too excited about an unusual public art installation in Miami Beach early last week.

Page Six originally reported that a security guard caught two people having “loud sex” at the “Great Elephant Migration,” which were 100 life-size elephant sculptures erected in the sand near 36th Street Park to mark Miami Art Week were set up. The amorous couple sat on one of the animals made from a repurposed invasive weed called Lantana camara by a team of artisans in India. The aim of the installation is to stimulate conversations about living together with animals and nature conservation. The proceeds from the sale of the pachyderms benefit various environmental organizations.

A representative for the exhibit, organized by the Real Elephant Collective, confirmed the incident to Miami.com in an email.

“On Tuesday evening, a security guard heard strange noises and went with his flashlight to investigate,” the spokesman wrote in an email. “Apparently he saw a couple having sex on one of the larger elephants. We don’t know how they got there.”

The security guard reportedly asked them to leave, they complied, and no arrest was made. Luckily, in Florida it is illegal to have sexual intercourse in public. Charges could include indecent exposure or lewd and lascivious behavior, which could involve actual time behind bars.

In other words, don’t get any ideas. Especially because security has been increased at the free exhibition, which runs until Sunday.

Luckily, the fact that these daring individuals used the viral ad as their personal playground didn’t impact foot traffic — or selfies.

“Thousands of people visited the exhibition and the exhibition is very popular with influencers,” the representative concluded. “Everyone we talk to cares about raising the elephants.”
