Did anyone win Mega Millions last night? Lottery jackpot at $944 million

It’s okay to have a Christmas wish as the Mega Millions jackpot is estimated to reach $944 million in the Christmas Eve drawing.

More than $800 million was up for grabs in Friday night’s Mega Millions drawing as the jackpot continued to climb to the $1 billion mark.

Before Friday’s drawing began, the lottery said the jackpot was $862 million, with an estimated lump sum payout of $392.1 million after taxes. It would have been the seventh largest jackpot in Mega Millions history.

While lottery players choose their numbers and wrap their presents, there has only been one lucky jackpot winner on Christmas Eve, according to Mega Millions.

“Thirteen Mega Millions jackpots have been won in December since the game began in 2002, but only once has it been won on Christmas Eve,” the lottery’s press release states. “This was in the game’s very first year, but the $68 million prize won in New York on December 24, 2002 ultimately went unclaimed.”

In March, one lucky Mega Millions player from New Jersey won a whopping $1.1 billion, although that prize has yet to be claimed. It’s not the first time a jackpot has gone unclaimed.

The winning numbers were drawn just after 11pm ET on Friday, and we have the results below.

How to play Mega Millions

To purchase a ticket, you’ll need to visit your local supermarket, gas station, or convenience store – and in a few states you can purchase tickets online.

To play you must select six numbers. Five numbers are white balls ranging from 1 to 70. The gold mega ball is a number between 1 and 25.

If you think the odds are stacked against you, ask for a “Quick Pick” or an “Easy Pick.” The computer then randomly generates the numbers for you.

Players can add the “Megaplier” for $1, which can increase non-top prize winnings by two, three, four or five times. The Megaplier is drawn on Tuesday and Friday before the Mega Millions numbers.
