Fans who grew up watching Jessie on Disney Channel were thrilled when two of the show’s stars appeared to be dating in a new video – but it appears the affectionate clip was just an inside joke.

Gossip began to spread Jessie Co-stars Karan Brar25, and Josie Totah23 – who played Ravi Ross and Stuart Wooten respectively in the series – were seen cuddling and kissing in a since-deleted TikTok. However, Totah released a follow-up video on Monday, January 13, in which he dismissed rumors of a romance.

“It was a joke,” she insisted in the clip. “It was a joke, it was a joke.”

“WE ARE TWO PLATONIC BEST FRIENDS DANCING A LITTLE TOO CLOSE TO THE SUN,” Totah captioned the video.

Commentators were quick to express their disappointment.

“And that’s why I have trust issues,” one person quipped.

“I refuse to believe this is a joke,” declared a second.

“Well girl, now you have to go on a date! The people have spoken,” another fan explained.

“Girl it’s TOO late…I’m already planning the wedding,” a fourth fan agreed.

“Okay, but listen to us. What if not,” someone else wanted to know.

In a 2018 essay for TIMETotah publicly came out as a trans woman. Growing up as a child actress, people would think she was gay, she explained.

“I almost felt like I owed it to everyone to be that gay boy,” she wrote.

“But I never thought of myself that way,” Totah added. “In the past, I’ve half-corrected people by telling them that I identify as LGBTQ from the time I was on a Disney show. I would be confused.

She continued: “But over the last few years I’ve realized that hiding my true self isn’t healthy. I know now more than ever that I am finally ready to take this step toward becoming myself. I am ready to be free.” . So, listen up: you can jump on or jump off, either way.

“My pronouns are she, her And her,” the actress clarified. “I identify as a woman, specifically a transgender woman. And my name is Josie Totah.
